Due to rising social expectations and new laws on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), it is becoming increasingly important for companies to ensure the trustworthiness and ethical acceptability of AI applications. However, instead of viewing these requirements merely as a challenge, they also offer companies the opportunity to innovate and differentiate themselves from the competition. The aim of this event is to jointly explore the business challenges in the area of responsible AI. It will also discuss how companies can proactively use these requirements to tap into new innovation opportunities and position themselves sustainably in the market.
The Service à l’Innovation et à la Recherche (SIR) of the HES-SO is organizing a webinar on June 24, 2024 (12:00-13:00) to present two ideas supported by the Innosuisse Innovation Booster program. The funding opportunities in the frame of the Innovation Booster databooster and Artificial Intelligence, for which Nabil Abdennadher, professor at HEPIA, is the representative in French-speaking Switzerland, will be introduced and explained.
Making sure that AI applications are trustworthy and ethically aligned is becoming a major issue for all developers of AI, and for all companies using AI. The European Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) has been endorsed by the European Parliament in December 2023, and will be put into place in the very near future – this will fuel the need for actually guaranteeing that AI is consistent with legal requirements on trustworthiness.
But: the way from legal requirements to testable properties of a concrete implementation is long. How to keep track of the relevant legal requirements? How to operationalize them into technical requirements? How to guarantee that a specific application is consistent with all requirements, over the whole lifecycle of the application?
This lunch event will explore these questions with an input presentation and a following discussion/exchange.

We are excited to showcase how Kistler applies digitalization for efficiency gains, securing customer satisfaction and opening new market opportunities. We will explore the role of service operations for Kistler as an equipment manufacturer, the use of process mining for increasing process efficiency as well as the role Kistler’s Innovation Lab for implementing solutions addressing new markets. The event will be rounded off with a factory tour and a chance to network during an apéro.
Combining techniques of technology foresight, storytelling, and sharing of lived experiences, Apéro Digital facilitates the co-creation of reflexive environments to support the understanding of societal transformations around digitalisation. Each event will result in a tangible artefact that is co-produced by participants. These outputs may be technical, argumentative, artistic, or analytical, all with the aim of adding values to the collective reflections about, and strategic navigation around, societal challenges posed by the ongoing digital transformation.
